THROMBOCYTOPENIA

This is a life-threatening condition in which the platelet count is very low. For a lower limit is considered the value of 170x109 per liter. If this value is under 100x109 per liter we talk about pathology and value of less than 20x109 per liter is incompatible with life because then begins uncontrollable bleeding of the tissues. It is caused by diseases of the bone marrow and in children from severe cold diseases.

Aspirin is a preparation that reduces the platelet count so if you are taking aspirin as a "blood thinner" (as a anticoagulant) for a long time it is necessary to examine your platelet count more oftenly because otherwise you are prone to hemorrhage (bleeding). Elderly people generally have lower platelet count and they need to take extra care. If in superficial injury or needle prick for blood sampling bleeding does not stop for 2-3 minutes but not more than 10 minutes this is a serious doubt for reduced number of platelets in the blood.

Vitamin C acts in the direction of enhancing clotting i.e. in case of thrombocytopenia will reduce the risk of prolonged bleeding.
